Gordon ISD recognizes and supports the important role parents and guardians play in their child's education. In accordance with Texas Education Code §26.006, parents and guardians have the right to review teaching materials, instructional materials, and other teaching aids used in the classroom of their child.
Parents may request access to review instructional materials used in their child's courses, including textbooks, curriculum resources, digital instructional materials, videos, supplemental materials, and other teaching aids. Parents are also entitled to review tests administered to their child after the test has been administered.
Instructional materials will be made available for parent review in person and, when applicable, electronically through an instructional materials parent portal. Gordon ISD may establish reasonable hours and procedures for the in-person review of materials.
Parents are also entitled to request a copy of their child's teacher's lesson plans or course syllabus as provided by Texas law.
Requesting a Review
A parent or guardian who wishes to review instructional materials used in their child's classroom may contact the child's teacher and/or Gordon ISD prinicpal. The District will work with the parent to provide reasonable access to the requested materials in accordance with state law and applicable copyright restrictions.
Parents may also request an instructional material review for a subject area in the grade level in which their child is enrolled in accordance with Texas Education Code §26.0061, Texas Education Code §31.0252, applicable State Board of Education rules, and Gordon ISD procedures.
Gordon ISD is committed to transparency and meaningful parent involvement and welcomes parents as partners in their child's education.
