Consent is required for a child to participate in school-sponsored clubs and organizations in compliance of Senate Bill 12, effective for the 25-26 school year, as can be found in Texas Education code 33.0815.

Key Points of the newly added legislation include: 

1. Districts may authorize or sponsor student clubs. 

2. Districts may not authorize or sponsor a student club based on sexual orientation or gender identity. 

3. Before a student participates in any authorized or sponsored club, the district must have written parental consent.
