On May 18, 2025, an EF 1 tornado with estimated winds of 105 mph struck Gordon, demolishing several school facilities—including the athletic facilities (football field, baseball field, weight room, equipment storage, light poles, and multiple classrooms)—and forcing the district to close for the remainder of the school year. State aid does not cover this level of damage, and insurance and emergency relief cannot fully fund rebuilding—a local bond is a way to secure the necessary capital.
The proposed bond would fund the construction of:
*A new baseball field
*A new field house that we plan to include locker rooms, a weight room, restrooms, a concession stand, a covered batting cage, and a storm shelter
*A visitor locker room and restroom area.
