Accountability

STATE ACCOUNTABILITY

The division of Campus and District Accountability provides campus and district leaders with student performance data to gauge progress; inform good decision making; and target assistance for students, teachers, and schools.

Texas provides annual academic accountability ratings to its public school districts, charters and schools. The ratings are based on performance on state standardized tests; graduation rates; and college, career, and military readiness outcomes. The ratings examine student achievement, school progress, and whether districts and campuses are closing achievement gaps among various student groups. To learn more, visit TXschools.gov. Alternatively, the following video provides a quick overview of the system.

The Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR), formerly known as the Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS), pull together a wide range of information annually on the performance of students in each school and district in Texas. The reports, available back to the 2003–04 school year, provide extensive information on staff, programs, and demographics for each school and district. Additional products that provide performance data are the School Report Cards and the Snapshot: School District Profiles.

When districts or schools struggle with performance, the state may order the implementation of interventions.

FEDERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), requires each State education agency to prepare and publish an annual report card with state-, district- and campus-level data.

Federal Report Cards for 2021-2022 are now available.

ESSA also requires each State education agency to report annually to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education.

The Texas Annual Report to the Secretary is available for 2017-182018-19, and 2019-20

Every district that receives Title I, Part A funding is responsible for distributing the state-, district- and campus-level report cards to each of its campuses, the parents of all enrolled students, and the general public.

Prior to 2013, the NCLB Report Card was published annually from 2009–12.

For more information about the Federal Report Card and districts' responsibilities related to it, please visit the Title I, Part A webpage.
